To empower indigenous pastoralist communities in Afar by protecting their rights, strengthening their knowledge systems, and restoring degraded ecosystems(like Sitabu and Bunkato) through community-led action and nature based solution.

The Sitabu-Bunkato Initiative for Indigenous Rights and Ecological Justice (SIBIREJ) is a locally rooted, community-driven organization based in the Afar Region of Ethiopia. The initiative was founded to respond to the growing environmental, social, and economic challenges faced by indigenous pastoralist communities in the region.
